Welcome to

Northumberland New Ventures Band.

We are always looking for new members!

Come play with us!

Northumberland New Ventures Band is a community band of adults playing musical instruments in a fun, no pressure, social setting.  Our bands offer 3 levels of play – beginner (no experience), intermediate (some experience or maybe returning to playing after a long hiatus), and our more experienced Avanti Band.  Many members begin with no prior musical experience, while some may have played an instrument in high school. “Joining the NNVB has been a wonderfully inspiring experience for me.  The instructors are all very experienced and supportive. Their collective enthusiasm and professionalism in teaching is apparent and motivating.  I am very happy to be a member of this group and highly recommend it to others.”

Pat Pentland - Tenor Sax, New Ventures Band

As a kindergarten student, I was somewhat proficient on the triangle, followed by further success on the xylophon, but I missed the boat to the recorder…….. Fast forward five decades later:  I read about the ‘New Ventures Band’ in the paper and finally had another go, with a new instrument, a rented alto sax. Didn’t sound too pretty at first! All it takes is to keep at it, seek out feed-back when in a rut, get involved: everyone is helpful and kind. Do try it, you’ll never regret it!

Bettina Brown, Alto Sax - New Ventures Band

“I’ve had the privilege of returning to playing flute, as well as learning to play alto sax and drum kit as a member of this terrific group since I joined the band in 2015.  We have fun, laugh, enjoy performing for the community and socializing with each other.  In addition as relatively new to the Cobourg area (2014) I have made many new and wonderful friends from amongst the band members.  If you’ve ever wanted to learn to play an instrument, this is the place to start!”

Linda McCourt, - various instruments

“I have always wanted to learn how to play the saxophone. I actually bought one in 1999 and there it sat in the box until 2018! It was then that friends told me about the New Ventures Band. I now can play the saxophone! Maybe not professionally — but certainly well enough to enjoy it!”
